Why we made it
A 03:00 can that still let you sleep at eight.
NÖBET started in a hospital corridor in 2023, with a vending machine, a nurse at the end of a twelve-hour shift and a can with 160 mg of caffeine in it. She drank it at three. At eight she lay in bed, wide awake.
The idea
The later the hour, the less in the can.
Energy drinks are made for people who stay up for fun. The people who stay up for work have one problem the whole category ignores: when the shift ends, they have to sleep.
A food engineer she had known since school did the arithmetic on a napkin — the half-life, the hour, what is left at bedtime — and the answer was obvious once written down: one can for every point in the night, each weaker than the last, each dosed to leave the same small amount at eight. And a last can with nothing in it, for the ride home.
Nöbet is the Turkish word for a turn of duty. A nöbetçi eczane is the one pharmacy in a district still open at 3 a.m. Everybody who has ever needed one knows the sign.
So far
Four years, in the order it happened.
- 2023The corridor, the vending machine, the napkin.
- 2024The first batch: 22:00 only, sour cherry, four hundred cans, sold from one kiosk opposite a hospital in Şişli.
- 2025All five hours. The cooler with one shelf per hour, because the kiosks kept putting the cans in the wrong order.
- 2026Twelve kiosks that never close. Still Istanbul only. Still no sugar added.
What we will not do
Four things, written down so we keep to them.
- Tell anyone to skip sleep. Caffeine moves tiredness later. It does not repay it.
- Add sugar or sweeteners to make a sour cherry taste like sweets.
- Sell a can bigger or stronger than its hour. If you want more, drink it earlier.
- Pretend. The numbers on every can are the numbers in it. This company, admittedly, is invented.
